Several years ago, during an annual review, a leader who had hired me said something that I continue to remember:
“I’ve noticed that everyone you talk to, you are comfortable with. It doesn’t matter if they are a senior leader or an entry-level employee, or a patient who might need more assistance than others… you seem comfortable with them and you treat them the same.”
At the time, I felt that it was meant as a compliment, and I’ve carried it with me ever since. Because I don’t believe he was pointing out my communication style—I believe he was pointing out the way I see people. That no matter what someone’s role, background, or circumstance, I believe every person deserves respect and attention, and that each person has a story to tell.
Here’s the truth: every single person I meet—whether it’s a client in coaching, a colleague in the workplace, or a stranger on the street—comes with their own story. Their journey is theirs alone. And the fact that I come with my own story, with its twists and turns, its detours and triumphs, means I can usually meet people where they are. No pretense. No hierarchy. Just one human to another.
The Lesson in Leadership (and in Life)
What that leader noticed in me is something I’ve carried into my coaching and leadership practice. It doesn’t matter if someone is just starting out, mid-career, or in retirement — or if they never entered the traditional workplace at all. Titles, résumés, and career milestones matter less than the fact that each of us is still on a path.
The question isn’t where we are. The question is whether we are moving forward—learning, growing, and refusing to stay stagnant. As long as there is movement, there is possibility. As long as there is curiosity, there is hope.
Where Coaching Fits In
Coaching exists in that space between where you are and where you want to be. It creates room for reflection, growth, and clarity—without judgment or comparison. My role isn’t to place you in a box, but to help you uncover what’s next for you.
And just like that leader noticed years ago, I’ll treat you the same as anyone else I work with: with respect, honesty, and genuine curiosity. Because while everyone is different, we all deserve to be seen, heard, and challenged to grow.
Your Next Step
So here’s the question I’ll leave you with: What part of your journey are you ready to grow into next?
If you’re curious, if you feel that nudge forward, coaching might be the right next step. Let’s explore what’s possible—together.
